It has been quite a while anything new got released from the stables of yours humbly. I have been on a brief creative hiatus, but it certainly doesn't mean I haven't been working on new material, it just means I've been working on making sure the new material is up to standard with what I expect of myself and what I intend to deliver to you, the faithful listeners.
Nonetheless, there are new performances coming up, preceding the release of the album, starting with March 31st at Gothenburg's Musikens Hus, headlined by Patoranking and Lani Mo. You will definitely be kept aware of the details of the album when they're available and of new happenings. Until then, Live free and love freely!
Hey Good people! After a long silence, there is finally new music from our stables. With the release of the new album “Talking To A Friend”, Juwon Simmons makes a long awaited return with a work as soul searching as it is entertaining. It could be described as a melancholic discour on life, friendship and the experiences we share. But that’s us... want to have an opinion? Try it.
But less words, more music! The album is available on almost every streaming site or service you know of, so be sure to check it out. Below are attached the album cover, official press release ( in Swedish ) and a link to the album on Spotify ! ;) Enjoy and share with your friends. Yes - Talk To A Friend about it ;) - corny but with love for all of you !
I recently patroned the good lady and friend, Anyi, of OZI designs, who creates some of the most beautiful tribal pieces I've seen. They spoke to me on an a cultural level, I had to support. Photos by : Amanuel M.
To those of you who have been most patient, the video is finally here. Directed by Freddie Hagman and Amanuel Mehari, this afrocentric video of what seems to a dreamy tale of fated lovers celebrates culture, romance history and the avenue at which they collide. The song is from 'The Ring Of Blue Fire' album, and is produced by DixieHype of Berkeley, California, we hope you enjoy.
NB: 'Na Tondi Wa' means 'I love you' in the Duala/Bakweri languages of the Sawa people of Cameroon.
It has taken quite a while, we must admit, but the music video to ''Na Tondi Wa ( A song for you )'', co-directed bt Freddie Hagman ( Yea! the guy who did ''Celebrate'') is almost here. In the meantime, check out this delicious teaser. Enjoy and look forward to the final work which comes out shortly!
Juwon Simmons, along with Mehari and Dakey recently performed at Sommarscen 2015 in Malmö, under the umbrella of P 3 Din Gata 100,6 . Besides the Swedish weather doing what it does best - fluctuate, it was a fun experience with great artists and a very resilient crowd.

We have not posted anything new in a while, I guess that is owed to the fact that the summer -which recently ended, has a way of stealing away every iota of the free time it is meant to grant us. Well, a lot has happened since the last post in the form of concerts, poetry sessions, attempted video shoots (which were quickly abandoned in favor of the famed summer chilling- yes, we too can be lazy fuckers who forget to work hard) and other things like coming up with great plans and ideas for the future, including the search for greater and more audacious concepts for our artform. Recently, however, we were in th company of Björn Ed; photograhy student and event photographer from the Gothenburg school of Art. With less talk, here is some of the work we did together. See more photos here.
The extended EP is officially out featuring productions from a host of talent including Dakey, Quik D, InspektahMorze , Johan Tull and GB among others. The 19 track release is set to be as diverse and yet engaging. This could be the sound of the unseen summer.hah! Without much talk , here are spotify and bandcamp links as well as coverart, designed as always by William Takor ,and track list. For free downloadclick here
Yes you read right , the title of the new song and video is in French , what's a world without diversification ? There also happens to be a song on the album with title in Duala/Bakweri; my grand mother's native tongue. So yes, diversification - all the way. With this video we tried to take it a step back , re-infuse the art with the ground elements it was born with , poetry , knowledge and sound while promoting self education and providing a stark contrast between the listener and the speaker . At a moment in musical history when people would rather dance - all the time , we thought it would be essential to recapture a seemingly forgotten paradigm. Still we intended to keep it swingy and fun , threw in a little bit of ransomness to get the people going . The video will officially be released today May 20th at 8pm swedish Time.
Last night saw the culmination of my first experience ever as competitor in a poetry slam contest. Slightly nervous , considering the other participants were amazing and talented , I surfed through the first two rounds unscathed . But in the third round which was to determine the Jönköping Poetry Slam competition winner, I tripped on the same poem twice , probably a lot more nervous than I thought I was. I apologized and abandoned the stage , not being able to recall the lines of the third piece. The Show host , slam artist Matiss, asked the crowd, and my opponent, if they could spare another chance for a redo which they agreed to with relative enthusiasm. Back on the stage, mind racing , scheming through alternatives , I happened on a forgotten piece , which I perform well enough but not too gracefully. It must have struck a chord though, as it gave me the upper hand by just 0.1 points , making me The slam champion of jönköping 2014 - I guess the world has it's ways .

So, after weeks or even months of uncertainty, postponing and the unconventional style hard work, the music video to the song ''celebrate'' which was released on Wednesday, September 25th, almost a year ago was finally put out. Working on this project with director Freddie Hagman(www.fmhagman.com) was certainly a most delightful experience. Shot on an awesomely warm day in the summer, it must have been June, or July , the only plan we had for this shoot was 'improvise'. We were originally going to shoot for ''Mr. Feel Good'' first, but a split second, last minute decision took us another way - which we dont regret, atleast not yet . Calling in the music family from Jönköping , we all met up at Gothenburg's Brunnsparken fountain - yes, the same one in the video, and from there, we took it the Chabe's. Then to the Slottskogen park. Then back to the fountain, meeting so many pleasant characters along the way, it was a typical day in the life of type video, as we did all the things we'd normally do on a warm summer day. The unpredicted randomness of the shoot, and the fiery diversity of the characters was an experience never to forget- and we wont. From the gorgeous Cloud-sized afro haired Mico, to the pretty Hijab-clad Aisha, to punk band members Erik and Fredrik ,among many others who cameoed, shooting the scenes at dreadlocked Isabel's crib was all too pleasant ! Atleast we all had a blast -I know Mehari and Dakey did! And that skateboard mishap about two minutes into the video can totally be explained - I could not handle it, yup, you read right, I couldn not skate to save my life, and that wouldn't be the first the board made me bite some dust. In effect, we tried to tell a simple story, one that anyone could relate to - it doesn't take too much to be happy, and appreciating the seemingly meaningless moments breeds timeless memories. Considering that Mehari, whom I have worked with for almost three years, or more, just moved to South Africa for a long while the day the video was released, and that Dakey who hates participating in anything outside the music studio went of his way, I think we indeed made the best of the moment - immortalized a story too long to tell. Well when it was all done, after 6 or more hours of shooting, we took it home, dropped of the equipment, took it to the Kings Head pub, grabbed a couple drinks and ended at a rave in the middle of some forest - a day of epic Randomness.
Awesome hair day! Erik, Mico, Fredrik (L to R)
We surely all well agree that the essence of making a video to a song has usually been to enhance and visually aid in interpreting the wordings to the said song. Sometimes it is to deter the supposed "uninitiated" and "unenlightened" from comprehending with ease what ever idea or knowledge is being passed across in the syllables being chanted. As such, music videos have , over time, come to be seen by many as either direct or subliminal suggestions as to what the true meaning of songs are. It also often happens thay both visual and auditory aid are necessary in grasping the underlinings of certain works as some messages are incomplete without one or the other. As many an artist would say, sometimes the simplest of things are the most effective. And So I got a new video to a people's favorite song waiting to see the bright of day shortly. Scenes are being shot in Sweden and Detroit and it's being directed by yours truly BenzeneCreative. The beautiful thing with projects like these are the people you get to work with. On that note, I present the scintillating persona playing a main character in the video - Sofia Gilia. She's a school mate, business school graduate , extreme car enthusiast, model and friend. I leave you with a photo for memory ... You might get to see this face more often in the future. Remember you saw it here first! Haha
speaking of words turned visual art, I also thought it would be cool to leave a photo of one of my song lyrics turned work of art by friend and artist Sara Svantesson! Enjoy ! If you wonder what song it is, check out "The Message" on Spotify and ITunes ! Or download the full album right here on our site!
Have an amazing weekstart folks!

celebrate - juwon simmons, mehari , dakey
That new song we been talking about , Produced by Dakey and Featuring Dakey, Mehari and I- the one intended to remind us to appreciate and savor the simple moments in life, is going to be released tomorrow. We did not choose the feast of thanksgiving for any particular reason, nor do we condone what it subliminally stands for; (we will avoid getting historically correct here) but we do accept the fact that it is the start of the greatest human festive season, so we are definitely taking advantage of that! The release is set for 20.00 , November 22, Stockholm time. Lets all take some time out to celebrate life... the part about making babies - that's entirely up to you! See you tomorrow at the 20th Hour.
By The Way, want to help us choose an artwork for the song? See the possibilities below... and drop a comment or two...
Well guys , I will not bore you with much writing, I'll let your screen do the talking! ENJOY!

So in effect I would like to say a hearty -Amen! to every one who aided on this project, my producers Quik Ivanov D and Dakey, FM, Gbeatz And Canvas Demaret, the talented UK cat who produced -The Free featuring Anna Norlin, which is a personal favorite! My video directors Alex Cleveland and The Amazing Suzan Arslan, A.S.A! whom we named after the amazing spiderman, yes - she's earned the right to be called a bro - and not because she let me sleep with her friends, --well, she wouldn't , not even if I asked nicely....maybe this was uncalled for! a thought to my team mates Mehari, who by a stroke of ill-luck and a hungry producer(dakey) couldn't appear on the mixtape...the word up crew...deli basis, graniit , zing and isyankar!

Ok...it's been a while I put up any posts, I've been working on new music and waiting for results! Well, I was at the gothenburg university campus a few hours ago talking to a friend when I came up with an idea...I'm almost certain this has been executed by lots of people before, but it's not public modus yet!
Well it's simple, I plan to shoot my next video or two from an iPhone , mine or my friends', doesn't matter! It's not really a social experiment per se, it's just me trying to create art from a simple instrument...yes , camera-wise the iPhone is simple! I'm contemplating between starting with a Quik D produced track and some other I don't know about yet...stay close and i'll keep you posted like flags!
Sad to say my birthday this year falls on Sunday, how sad is that? so , in order to pass that day in harmony, i chose to party on saturday obviously. A the student headquarters of J-town! Råslätt! well , all this is really not your musical business, i just thought i'd put it out there, for anyone who cared! which should be no one, coz if I was in your Shoes, i wouldnt care. Well my post this morning is meant to promote a new video from the guys at WORDUP! Apparently i couldnt get the studio yesterday coz they were working on this, and i don't know about you, but i think it was worth it! i like it. shout out to Graniit,Marino the fire man, Alikay, Isyankar, Mehari, Redhead,-who's verse was fat as a german milk maid!, LBDB ....and the homie Roy....who remotely reminds me of a medieval european religious deity, why? - coz he's always there, never says much, but always there, lurking in the dark, putting paintings on the walls! graffiti!!!
Got some unwelcome news, had been planning to head down to J-town to finish recording the tape, when i got informed that the studio was unavailable due to...i'm not exactly sure why. I think the Mac got raped by the microphone, or some other form of molestation...hahha, just being annoying, but yes, don't know why! called my partners at Brunnen , and couldn't get that either , apparently I've been away for far too long to maintain my supposed ''right to priority in times of need'' - didn't know i had that in the first place, was just reaching out. Well, these excuses come down to one point, i missed the deadline, so the mixtape release will be pushed forward a few days. Not sure how long, but i guess it should be for the greater good! will keep you guys posted like
Music is our common language and like numbers , it is spoken by all. We are nothing more than free spirits with a desire to make the World resonate to the frequencies of Mother earth's heartbeat and sway frantically in the glow of the moonlight.
